Questions
Does New York tax wages?
New York taxes wages. Statutory estimate, not the employer wage table. The top rate used on this page is 10.9%.
Is this the amount an employer will withhold?
Federal withholding uses IRS Publication 15-T. The state line is an estimate of the statutory tax, not the state wage-bracket table, so the stub can differ.
What else is withheld?
Social Security is 6.2% up to $184,500. Medicare is 1.45%, plus 0.9% after $200,000 from one employer. Payroll programs we could verify are listed on the paycheck.
Does New York have local wage tax?
New York City and Yonkers are separate choices. They are not added on top of each other.
Why might my pay stub differ?
Pre-tax benefits, year-to-date wages, and a different W-4 can change the result. Compare the line citations with the stub.
